FRIENDS
REOPENED
- Looking for Friends - the
bar managed by an American living in Prague - Michael? It is not to
find at the old address... Your favorite place in Downtown of
Prague... The answer is simply. It is moved to the street
Bartolomejska, number 11. Thanks to troubles with the former house
owner, Michael had to find another place. (Yes, you may know that
street. Among Czech gays is known as the "KGB" street with
the central register of gay citizens. Do not be afraid, the register
was cancelled after the Velvet Revolution in 1989.)
CZECH REPUBLIC IN THE EUROPEAN UNION
- The Czech Republic and nine other countries, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Malta and Cyprus joined the European Union on the 1st May 2004.
On 13th and 14th June 2003 the Czech Republic crossed the final hurdle to membership, when a nationwide referendum showed nearly 80% support for EU membership, despite a disappointing turn-out of only 55%. Membership has also been endorsed in referenda in a further eight applicant countries.
- The currency unit in the Czech Republic is STILL the crown (Koruna).
You can change money at banks, hotels and at many excange offices,
always visibly marked, all over Prague. We do not recommend any
other way of changing money. (Some shops, restaurants and hotels
accept EUROs as the second currency. 1 EUR = 32 CZK)
- Foreign visitors are allowed to export from the Czech Republic,
without any permission, goods not having a commercial character and
regarding the commodity and the quantity, designed to satisfy the
personal needs of the traveller, or gift items.
- More than 2,000 Prague restaurants and pubs invite you to taste
good food and good drink. Do not hesitate to try "ceske
knedliky", roast pork, fine sauces and delicate desserts
decorated with whipped cream, and do not forget to ask for a pint of
well cooled beer or a glass of Moravian or Slovak wine. Of course
you can try specialities from other countries, too.
- Shops are mostly open from 9.00 a.m. till 7.00 p.m. On Saturdays
generally till 1.00 p.m. In the centre of the town, the shops are
usually open on Sundays too.

performance of CARMEN (Georges Bizet) at the Statni Opera Praha.

Troska (picture). The first night is planned for March 11,
2004.
BEAR
PARTY IN CANNES - On Saturday March 13, 2004 more than 120 bears had a lot of fun at the Bear Party in the cellars of the club Cannes. Until the early morning the cool location was used intensively... Bear met bear at the cinema with the video projection with bear films, or in the separated video rooms or dark rooms. Other men were sitting at the bar, drinking beer and talking. The repetition is planned for the
EASTER
2004.
THE
9TH BIRTHDAY OF KAFIRNA U CESKEHO PANA
- The small café
KAFIRNA U CESKEHO PANA has celebrated on February
17, 2004 its 9th birthday of existence (2 years located in Tynska
Street, now 7 years in Kozi street). This café has become somewhat an
institution in Prague. It is a very unpretentious place, with a real
local Czech atmosphere, which makes it easy to meet new friends or get
together with "old" ones. If you plan a tour to Prague, it is
well worth a visit. Our city-map
will help you to find it. So, have fun, exploring the local
gay-scene.
We would like to wish Petr (picture) and Jirka, the owners, every success for future ventures and hope their café continues to
prosper for years to come.
TATTOO
STUDIO ALIEN - To be IN means to visit Tattoo Studio Alien at the Jilska Street, number
22, Prague 1. The gay owned studio presents its service on the following page.
If you do not dare to go for a permanent tattoo you have the option to
try a Henna paint tattoo which is inexpensive and only lasts for a few
days. Cleanliness and perfect hygiene is taken very seriously, and is
clearly evident at the Alien Studio. Pencil sharp points, lines and
curves, as well as strong colours are visible proof of an experienced
tattoo artist, and there can be no doubt that Petr is.
NAKED
PARTY IN CANNES -
Every Thursday from 20:00 - 04:00 and every Sunday from 16:00 to 23:00
the "Naked and Underwear Party" takes place. Just like during
the similar events, the door of the Cannes
will remain closed. Once after having entered the club, you get a
big plastic to put in your stuff, which then will be kept up safe. Dress code: naked, max. underwear and shoes can be left on.
Valuable things are also to be put in the plastic bag and will be kept
up safe there. You will not need any cash on you, as a note will be made
of all drinks, which then will have to be paid at leaving the club. The
entry fee is CZK 50 (naked person) or CZK 100 (underwear on body) - not
including drinks of your choice as is known in other clubs. You can
enter and leave the club at any time, also during the party.
THE CHAMPIONS
- CZECH BOYS ON VIDEO
- You may know that the ice hockey championships 2004 will take place in
Prague from April 24 till May 5, 2004. Do you know that The Czech company Bobsvideo has produced its other gay video

the world hockey champions. This work is available from all good video

PRAGUE
HAS A NEW LOGO
- Prague has adopted a unified graphic design for its presentation based
on its new modern logo. Prague has thus ranked among the many European
and world capitals that already have their own visual identity. The new
modern logo shall replace the current coat of arms that has lost its
value due to frequent usage. It will be used only at official ceremonies
and other specific events.
The winning design was selected in a public tender called by the Prague
Town Hall at the beginning of 2002. All entries will be displayed at the
School of Applied Art gallery at Namesti Jana Palacha Square in Prague 1
in November.
